Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my brakes grinding or squealing?

Squealing usually means the pads are worn down to the wear indicator. Grinding usually means the pads are gone and metal is hitting the rotor, which ruins rotors fast. Get grinding checked right away.

How do I know if I really need new rotors?

You need them if they're below minimum thickness, warped (you'll feel the pedal pulse) or deeply scored. Rudy measures them and tells you which it is. Plenty of brake jobs don't need rotors.

How long do brakes last?

Most pads last 30,000 to 70,000 miles. Houston stop-and-go traffic wears them toward the low end. Rudy will tell you how much is left whenever the car is in.

Why is my brake pedal soft or going to the floor?

Usually air in the lines, a fluid leak or a failing master cylinder. All three affect your ability to stop, so don't keep driving it. Bring it in right away.
